Support for Nurse Training

The purpose of this bursary is to contribute to the promotion of the nursing profession and the recruitment of qualified personnel in the Pontiac local service network, as the need for nurses at the Pontiac  Hospital has never been greater.

What’s more, this bursary will support Pontiac students enrolled in a recognized nursing program in Quebec or Ontario!

In order to be eligible for the bursary, the student must meet the following selection criteria:

  • Be a resident of the MRC Pontiac or the municipality of Pontiac.
  • Be bilingual.
  • Be enrolled full-time or part-time in a nursing education program in Quebec or Ontario for the upcoming school year (starting in September of each year).
  • Meet the hiring criteria of the CISSS de l’Outaouais (with respect to criminal record and health declarations).
  • Be available to work in CISSS facilities in accordance with the requirements of the collective agreements in force.
Bursaries Awarded
  • 4 bursaries per academic year
  • Maximum of $5,000 per year, per award, up to a maximum of $20,000
    • $5,000 per academic year for full-time studies
    • $2,500 per academic year for part-time studies
Financial Conditions
  • The student selected for the bursary will receive a payment of 50% of the bursary amount awarded at the beginning of each academic session for the duration of the training program (fall and winter) up to a cumulative maximum of $20,000.
  • Proof of enrollment will need to be submitted for each semester.
  • In the event of withdrawal or suspension of the program of study, the student will lose the right to any future payment of the bursary. They will need to reapply if they wish to be awarded the bursary again.
Working Conditions During and After Studies
  • During their studies, the bursary student will provide work in accordance with the requirements of the collective agreements in force at the CISSS de l’Outaouais in a job title that suits the bursary holder’s abilities and according to the needs of the CISSS de l’Outaouais.
  • Students who successfully complete the nursing program and who has benefited from the bursary program agree to provide full-time work at the Pontiac Hospital Centre or the CLSC de Mansfield in the emergency department for a minimum period of 12 months for every $5,000 received in scholarship. (e.g., a student who has received $15,000 in scholarships spread over 3 years will have to provide a minimum of 3 years of work at the Pontiac.)
  • In the event that the bursary student does not provide the minimum work performance mentioned above, they will be required to reimburse the total amount of bursary received in proportion to the work provided. (E. g. If they do not provide any work, they will reimburse the full amount of the bursary. If they received $15,000 over 3 years and only worked for one year, they will repay $10,000). The period of work includes the period during which the bursary student will act as a candidate for the Practice of Nursing (CEPI). If the bursary student fails the OIIQ exams, they will be subject to the same treatment and conditions of the bursary in an alternative job title according to the needs of the CISSS de l’Outaouais.
